Book Review: The Girl You Left Behind

Are you a reader?  I LOVE to read and always have a book (or two) in progress.  There’s nothing better than transporting yourself somewhere else via the words of a good book.  I’ve visited places all over the world and throughout history just by burying myself in the pages of books.

If any of that sounds familiar, then I have a book for you!  I was out of town this past weekend, and finished this book on the plane.  It was soooo good!  It’s one of those where I couldn’t tell how it was going to end because I could see it going 1 of 2 ways and I have to say, I definitely liked the ending.

I like a lot of different types of books, but I’m particularly drawn to historical fiction.  I definitely like there to be a healthy dose of ‘fiction’, I don’t want it to read like a history book, but I enjoy when the author weaves in different aspects of the past.

The Girl You Left BehindThe Girl You Left Behind, by JoJo Moyes, mixes the past with the present in such a way you’re drawn into both storylines.  The past – WW1 France – connects to the present – London – via a painting.  There are two main characters – one for each period.  Each are women with strong convictions about what they want and what they believe.

For me, it was a relatively fast read since I couldn’t put it down, but those are always the best type, right?!  I don’t want to give too many more details on the story and accidentally give something away!  Just add it to your ‘Books to Read’ list and trust me (everyone else has one of these lists, right?  Tell me it’s not just me!).

I’ve started another good book (which also happens to be historical fiction!), so I’m off to dive back in :).

Happy Reading!
