December Faves & January Plans!

Now that December has wrapped, it’s time to take a quick peek back and see what folks were reading here on the blog, and to check in on how I did with my goals for last month!

December Reader Faves

It’s always good to keep an eye on what people are reading on your blog so it’s fun to check out the stats at the end of each month to see what had people coming back for more!

This month, a new post is crowned as the all time favorite!  My post on planner reviews has moved past my review on the Passion Planner!  This is largely due to the popularity of my pin on Pinterest (thanks Pinterest!).

As you can see…planners are ruling the world since 3 out of the 4 top spots are planner related!  That makes the planner addict in me giddy, knowing there are many other like-minded folks out there!

How’d I do on my December Goals?

One thing I like to do to help me stay motivated is to report on how I did on the goals I set for the previous month.  It helps me to stay more accountable since I hate feeling like I failed something!  So…here’s a look at how I did with my December goals!

1. Finish Christmas Shopping {SUCCESS!}: With Christmas come and gone, this was a success!  I finished all of my Christmas shopping in time for the big day!

2. Do (and finish!) a December Daily project {FAIL}: Ummm….yeah….I didn’t do this one AT ALL!  I’m okay with that, though.

3. Do some more decluttering & make final donations for the year {FAIL}: With Christmas shopping, making gifts, and taking two trips, I just didn’t have the time to dedicate to this particular goal.  It’s on my 2015 goals, so it WILL be accomplished!!

4. Figure out my goals for 2015 (health, blog, travel, personal growth, home) {SUCCESS!}: While I still have some of the specifics to iron out, I did complete this task!  You can check out my post from yesterday (Making New Years Goals, NOT Resolutions!) if you’re curious as to what some of those goals are!

January Plans

Keeping in my mind 2015 goals that I shared yesterday, now I can get a little more specific in my plans for January to get me closer to reaching my overall goals (although I’ll spare you all of the nitty gritty details!!)!  In addition to my 2015 goals,  I also have some other shorter term objectives on my plate…

1. Blog Goals:  I have several big things I want to try to get done this month!
  • Set up an email list so I can start sending out monthly updates (first one is planned to go out February 1!).  I’ll be giving you more details about this in the coming weeks and I’ll set up a way for you to sign up early, so stay tuned!
  • Release my very first downloadable!
  • General clean up on the backend (nothing will change visibly other than a few things being more organized)
2. Tackle some organization projects:  One of my 2015 goals is to organize my entire house!  That won’t be an easy undertaking, nor will it be a quick, weekend project.  I’ll be breaking this up into chunks over the course of the year to make it more achievable!  For this month…
  • Clean out that darn spare room (this has been on my monthly goals for the past several months – December, November, AND October!)…not only am I SICK of it being a mess, I’m sick of promising to get it done and still seeing it on my list every month!!
  • Rearrange my office:  I love my office, but, where my desk is currently placed, I don’t have a wall next to it and I really want to be able to put one of my pin boards next to me to put my goals and encouraging notes within eyeshot while I work!

 3. Gym workouts:  Now that the holidays are over and I’m not traveling anywhere, it’s time to get serious with the ‘being healthier’ plan for 2015.  I plan to complete at least 12 gym workouts (and I also hope to get in some workouts at home too).

4. Go to bed earlier:  I consider this part of my ‘being healthier’ plan for the year.  I need more sleep and since I do suffer from the occasional bouts of insomnia, going to bed easier should help with that (my acupuncturist told me last year that for my type of insomnia, I need to go to bed before 11:00, which worked when I tried it last year!).

5. Journal daily: As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I did this for about 5-6 months last year before falling off the cart, so I’m going to work harder on that this year!  Like last year, I’m going to be taking an online class, which starts Monday, to help me get started!  I took her class last January and LOVED it, so I’m very excited to get started!

6. Schedule a ‘me’ night 1x/week:  Since I work full time and blog pretty much daily, I don’t have a lot of down time and this isn’t the best idea.  So, starting this month, I’m going to plan a ‘me’ night once a week which will involve no blogging, no internet and no chores.  Basically, I’ll do something that lets me relax and recharge (I’m thinking movie night, curling up with a good book, or working on a new crafty project!).

AND…a few updates on Random Little Faves for 2015!

And now for the exciting part of today’s post…
(and hopefully, you’re still with me!  I know this is turning into a lonnnngggg post!)

I have been brainstorming about expanding on a few ideas I’ve had for offering some new things on the blog this year!!  So, I just want to give you a sneak peek of what’s in store :).

1.  A monthly email:  As I mentioned above, I really want to start a monthly email for those that want to receive more info from me.  I have several ideas on this and I’m starting to work on things now!

2. Free downloadables:  I’m VERY excited about this one!  I can’t say too much about this one right now, but my plan is to provide these with the monthly email (so you’ll need to be a subscriber to get your hands on these babies!).  For January, though, I will offer the downloadable via a blog post to kick things off and since I won’t have an email for January.  Stay tuned for this in another week or so!

3. Focus on a different ‘theme’ each month:  As I was planning out my 2015 goals for my blog, I decided to have a “theme” for each month.  I’m not planning on anything kitsch-y or cute-sy.  It’ll be more of a focus that’s timely for the month.  I won’t post solely on that topic during the month, but will plan to feature a few topics on the idea during the month and the downloadable that will be available via the monthly email will also relate!

With that in mind, January’s theme is all about GETTING ORGANIZED and I have a few posts in the works to help with that idea for later this month!

I’m really excited about this and can’t wait to share more content specific ideas throughout the year!  If you have any topics you’d like to see me focus on this year, just leave me a comment and let me know!

(And if you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me!!)

Your turn!  What are your goals and plans for January?  Are they going to help you reach your goals for the year?  Leave me a comment and let me know!

LOVE your organized plan… I have been ALL about that lately! I also have been checking out lots of popular planners like the Day Designer and the fab Passion Planner from KickStarter… So far not sure which route to take! But its fun… What were you thinking with the December Daily project? Sounds fun… but maybe it should be a once a week project to keep more manageable? Cant wait for your downloadable item… :)

Thanks Karen! There are so many great planners out there, I understand your dilemma! If you have questions on any of them, just let me know! For the December Daily project, I wanted to take a photo every day of December and then organize them in a book to capture the Holiday season, but….just couldn’t make that happen! lol I used to do a 365 project where I took at least 1 photo a day to beef up my photography skills but it is really hard to do it everyday! I didn’t complete the year, so this year, I’m shooting for at least 1 photo a week (and product photos don’t count, lol!).

    Sounds great!

I’m looking at setting up an email list too, but I don’t think that I’m going to get to that until much further into the year. I think for this month, my biggest goal is going to be organizational as well – getting myself and my blog ready for some change and growth. Sweet Husband and I have also talked about our plans to get healthy, so today when I was out running some errands, I picked up a bunch of containers so Sunday I can pack lunches for both of us and dinner for me for the week.

Should be fun to see where we wind up!

Hi Jen! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for your blog! I find it so fun to start coming up with ideas, but man, does it take awhile to get it implemented…I envy those that are able to be bloggers full time! Great idea on making lunches/dinners on Sunday for the week…that’s how I end up falling off track. Who has time to cook a healthy meal on weeknights!
I’m looking forward to seeing your changes in your blog later in the year!!

I love how honest you are about what you considered to be successes and failures during December. It’s nice to see how real and genuine you always are, Vicky! We seem to have very similar blog goals, so I’m excited to follow along with your journey. I’m also in the process of cleaning up backend work and planning fun things…cheers to all of that, right?? Going to bed before 11…that sounds amazing. I’ll join in with ya on that one and make it a goal!

Hi Erica – Thanks!! I’m really excited to follow you as well and especially to be a part of your NYNB! :) I made the 11:00 bedtime last night…we’ll see how long that lasts, lol, but I do sleep much better when I can actually accomplish that one. You’d think that would be enough motivation for me, right? lol

Happy New Year Vicky! I’m still waiting for my Passion Planner to get here, but I’m excited to start filling in my Powersheets :) I’m excited to see all the changes you’re going to implement this year! I see quite a few things on your list that should be on mine lol. Bedtime before 11? That would be heaven. I also find journaling before bed very helpful to get a good night sleep. I have a terrible time turning my brain off at night lol. Can’t wait to see what printables you are going to share :) xo Liz

Hi Liz! “Turning off my brain” is EXACTLY my problem!! I’m not even worrying about stuff…sometimes it’s simply a song that plays on repeat in my head, lol. I’m trying to journal before bed too…that seems to be the only time I can stick with it, so hopefully that will help. I’m eager to get my Passion Planner too!! I saw in her last update that those that should’ve received it in Dec (which is me) would ship out this past Friday, but I haven’t gotten an email saying it’s shipped yet :(. But, I know she’s working her butt off to get them out, so I can be patient! I’m still working on my Powersheets too…hoping to finish those up in the next couple of days :).
