January Faves & February Plans

Hello February! With the start of a new month, it’s time to take a look back on the last one and then set our sites ahead to the new month that is upon us.

You know what I love about February – while still in the middle of winter, I can feel us getting one step closer to Spring!  January proved to be a relatively mild January for us here in Connecticut (if not in temperature, then definitely in snow!).  But, February is looking to right the ship and bring Old Man Winter out to play (but, apparently, I’m now a Winter Girl, so bring it on!).

And you know what else I’m loving about this particular February??  I’m releasing my very first newsletter!

If you haven’t subscribed yet, be sure you do!  You’ll get a peek into what’s coming for the month ahead, some random tips, an advanced announcement for the month’s guest speaker, and a FREE printable that will ONLY be made available to my subscribers!

It’s always fun to look back and see which posts people liked best.  These were the four top posts that I published last month, so if you missed one, be sure to check them out!

How’d I do on my January Goals?

Last month I started off the New Year with some pretty ambitious goals for January.  I do typically load up my plate and know that I may be putting to much on it and won’t complete everything, but I’m okay with that.  That keeps me motivated to keep going and pushing ahead!

1. Blog Goals:  I had some BIG goals for the blog and I’m so happy that I got the main ones DONE!
  • Set up an email list  for monthly updates {SUCCESS}: If you missed the big announcement and would like to sign up for the newsletter, have no fear, you can click right HERE!
  • Release my first printable {SUCCESS}: I put together a workbook to help you set goals that you will achieve and released it as planned!  Since I spent quite a bit of time developing it, I made it available to email subscribers only.  If you’d like to read more about that, just check out my newsletter info page!
  • General clean up the backend {FAIL}: I was so busy with the other two projects that I didn’t quite get to this one, but that’s actually a good thing.  I am planning to update my blog design this month, so a lot of cleanup will take place with that project (more on that in my February goals!).

So even though I didn’t finish the last task, I consider this particular goal a SUCCESS!

2. Organization Projects:  One of my big projects for this year is to clean out the clutter from my entire house and organize everything, so this month, I tackled one of my rooms and completed the clean out/organization process!
  • Clean out spare bedroom  {FAIL}: Fail, yes, BUT, that was because I did more than just rearrange my office.  I bought a new desk and organization tools and spent more time than I anticipated in that room.  This one will happen…someday, I swear!
  • Rearrange my Office {SUCCESS}: I am SO excited that I finished this project.  I bought a new desk and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!  That necessitated a few new office supplies and a new lamp, but I have it all set up now and I love it!

3. Gym Workouts - Complete 12 gym workouts {FAIL/SUCCESS}: I completed 7 workouts at the gym and about 5 or 6 more at home, so I wasn’t a lazy slug all month.  My gym is near work, so on days when I work from home, I can’t go to the gym.  This month, due to weather and other things, I had to work from home on a few of my gym days.  While I didn’t complete the set number I was aiming for, I do feel I succeeding in getting back into the healthy swing of things!

4. Go to bed earlier  {GIANT FAIL}: I managed to make my 11:00 cutoff on some nights, but there was just too much to do and since I don’t normally get home from work until about 7:00pm, it’s just not realistic for every night. I did listen to my body though, and on nights when I was super tired, I made sure to turn in early.

5. Journal Daily {FAIL/SUCCESS}: No, I didn’t journal daily, but I am back into journaling regularly.  So, technically a fail, but I’ll count it as a win since I’m happy that I’m at least back in the game on some days!

6. Schedule a ‘Me’ Night once per week {FAIL}:  Again, just too much to do!  The blog work took up a LOT of my free time this month, so I just didn’t quite get around to having an unplugged ‘Me’ night (I had nights where I relaxed in front of the TV and watched a movie, but I was online reading and commenting on blogs while doing so, which I enjoy, but isn’t exactly ‘unplugged’!).

So, it looks like I didn’t really do much this month, but I did.  The office reorganization project and the two blog projects took up pretty much all of my spare time this month, so I basically under anticipated the amount of work involved in those, but they were my two biggest projects, so I’m okay with that!

February Plans

I’m keeping it real this month and not putting too much on my plate because I KNOW goal #2 is going to take a big chunk of my time this month.

1. Gettin’ Fit – kick it up a notch!
This month, I’m getting serious!  I have a very close friend’s wedding to attend at the end of March, my birthday the first weekend in April, and a family reunion the week after that.  So…no more time to waste!

I also joined a friendly competition at my gym where you pay $100 to participate, but the person that loses the most (based on %) during the two months it runs wins the entire pot!  Since 14 people signed up (including me), that’s $1400 at stake!

I would love to win that, so I’m keeping track of what I’m eating and I’ll be working out a LOT!  If I stay on track, I could get to my goal within that 2 months, so that would be nice too!

2. Give the blog a fresh coat of paint!
As I alluded to earlier, the blog is getting a fresh coat of a paint this month!  I’m REALLY excited about this and have been working on the new design for the past couple of weeks.  I can’t quite reveal anything yet (although my email subscribers got a little sneaky peeky!), but it’s cleaner, more organized and focused, and just a whole lot prettier!

3. Plan to have 2 nights this month where I will UNPLUG…no computer, no phone, no social media, nothing!!!
Alright…I’m serious this month.  The blog redesign is going to take a lot of time (which I am looking forward to!), but I will need to force myself to unplug and just relax for an evening or two.  I’m hoping to release my new blog during President’s Day weekend (if not sooner!), and once that’s out…I’m going to take a night or two off to celebrate and recharge!

February’s Focus

Last month, I revealed that one of my changes for my blog this year is to introduce a monthly focus.  Last month, I focused on organization.

This month, we’ll be focusing on YOU!  With February being the month of “Love”, who better to love first, than ourselves?

Having confidence in ourselves, loving, and accepting ourselves is something I strongly believe in and I’m rather passionate about it, so I am really excited about this month!

Tomorrow, I have a big post planned to kick things off!  And my lucky email subscribers have already received their free PDF printable in the February newsletter that dives even more into this topic.

It’s not too late for you to get yours!  I’ll talk more about it tomorrow, but if you’d like to go ahead and sign up, I’ll be emailing the printable to anyone that subscribes to my newsletter this month!

So friends, what are your plans for this month?  How did you do with your plans for January?  Leave me a comment and let me know!

Good work on documenting all your goals and revealing if you passed or failed! I am happy that I set up goals…now I got to get busy on them! One step at a time, right? :)

Congrats on meeting some of your goals!! I try to make them and stick to them but life most certainly gets in the way. I like how you have out in writing. It’s a better way to make your self more accountable! I definitely want to journal more and blog more (weekly). I just have to find the way time of day and way to make it happen.

It’s so much easier to write it on paper than to find the time, right?! Life has a way of throwing us those annoying and unexpected curve balls, but as long as I keep rolling, I won’t stress about the stuff that didn’t quite make it. It happens! Good luck with your journaling and blogging!! Hope you are able to carve out some time to work on those :-).

Wow! You may not have accomplished all of your goals, but you accomplished more than I did! I really think it’s better to aim higher and fall short than to limit yourself with just a few easy goals.

I agree…if I only have a few goals and I wipe them out in 2 weeks, I likely won’t reassess and come up with new goals, so I’d waste the rest of the month on nothing!! Better to pack it full and do what I can (so long as I don’t stress about not getting them all done, which I don’t normally do!). Thanks for your kind works, Erin :-).

What a fabulous set of reflections and goals! It’s SO important to take that “digital detox” as I call it. We often put that off for ourselves a lot but its so important if we want to stay refreshed, focused and uplifted in what we do!

Absolutely! I couldn’t agree more, Jennifer! Now, I just need to put the money where my mouth is, lol. Thanks for your support! :-)

Thanks so much Chloe!! I’m looking forward to getting everything switched out, but trying not to let my excitement cause me to jump the gun too prematurely. :-)

Loved this :) This is a really good idea to help hold yourself accountable. You’ll LOVE Leonie’s workbook too because there is a section dedicated just to making goals and then reviewing them each month!!! I can’t wait for you to get it :) I just bought a Wreck This Journal…I like that it’s a different take on journaling. We’ll see how it goes lol. Maybe I’ll even do a review about it! xo Liz http://www.4evermysweetpea.com

Ooh…I’ve never heard of a Wreck It Journal, so of course, I had to pause and hop to another tab to google it. Very cool! Liz, you MUST share some of that once you start wrecking it! I would love to see what you come up with! Just sayin’ ;-).

Congrats on the goals you completed and good try and those you were not! Its better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all, right? I might take you up on that unplugging twice a month idea. I recently took a trip in which I had some time to read recreationally which as a full time student part time worker and RA and blogger… it doesn’t happen anymore. I forgot how easily I can get lost in the written word and setting time aside to do that would really lighten up the stress I carry. Great post!

Hi Ana…I hear you! Taking a Saturday afternoon, curling up on the couch, and just reading a good book for a few hours sounds like heaven! Thanks for your kind words and glad that I inspired you to take a little down time…we all need it! :) Good luck staying on top of everything…sounds like you have your hands full!

I also have been trying to “get fit” and I will be posting a little bit about what I’ve been doing for the past two months! It’s so hard to keep up with goals but I think writing them down does help to keep you on track! Hope February’s goals work well for you!! :)

Thanks Lindsay! It does stay in the back of my mind that I will sharing my progress on my goals with everyone, so that helps keep me motivated as well! :) Good luck on your ‘get fit’ goals and I can’t wait to read more about it!
