Beauty Bar {Allure Sample Society} – April 2015

It’s time for another monthly subscription box reveal! This time around, we’re taking the lid off of my April 2015 Beauty Bar box by Allure Sample Society and its a good one!

This month’s box is a bit of a mixed bag…there’s hair products, makeup products, and candle, perfume, and skin care!!  Needless to say, you can’t help but find one type of beauty product in here that you prefer!

Ready to dive in and take a peek?  Let’s see what we have, shall we?

#1: Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil by Bumble and Bumble

This stuff promises to enhance shine, tame frizz, and keep flyaways under control.  You can use it on wet hair or dry hair.

I didn’t really see too much improvement in my hair, but then again, I don’t have frizz, dry, or hard to control hair (my hair problem is lack of body).  I used it on both wet hair and dry hair.  I think I saw more of a difference when using it on my dry hair.  It did help smooth the ends since sometimes they have a tendency to look a little lifeless.

But, when I applied it to my wet hair and blow dried it, I didn’t notice a difference and honestly prefer other products that I use.

So…this one won’t be landing in my shopping cart anytime soon!

#2: The PoreFessional by Benefit

This product is not a new one to me. Besides getting samples of this in 2 out of 3 boxes last month, I’ve used it off and on for a couple of years.  I even did a review of it over a year ago!
I love this product…it does a nice job of really smoothing out the skin in prep for your makeup.  So, I was thrilled to get another sample size to add to my travel collection.

#3: Noir Candle by Illume Tonka

I love candles, so I am always happy to see a little candle sample in my subscription boxes.  I like to stock up on these and take them with me when I travel so I can make the hotel room a tad more homey.  These little guys are perfect for that!

When it comes to candles, soy candles are my definite faves.  They seem to last longer, they burn smoother, and the scent is more natural.

This one has notes of mandarin, plum, rose, jasmine, tonk a bean, musk, sandalwood, and Madagascar vanilla.  It’s pleasant, but not necessarily my favorite scent. It’s a slightly exotic scent, which is nice, but my preference is for more lighter scents.  With that said, I will use this sample, but I’m not likely to order it anytime soon.

#4: Just Kissed Lip Plumper by Jane Iredale (color: Rio)

I love me a good lipstick and this one promised to plump the lips.  Personally, I’ve never seen my lips ‘plump’ up after apply a product, so I usually ignore the claim and just focus on the other qualities – color, wearability, hydration, etc.

As expected, I saw no plumping results. It is very smooth and creamy, which I really liked.  It has decent staying power, but nothing to write home about.  Overall, I like this lipstick, with the exception of this particular color.  It’s brownish color which does not go well with my cool tones.

But, since I do like to layer up lip products, I used the light pink lipgloss from last month’s box on top and it looked really pretty!

I don’t think I’d buy this color, but I wouldn’t be opposed to other options, but with that said, I don’t really like trying to pick out lipstick colors online, so I likely won’t order this one.

#5: Lavender-Chamomile Body Lotion by Mt. Sapola Lavendar

This body lotion is packed with lavender and chamomile…especially lavender!  The scent is almost overpowering to the point that I could only get this on my arms before I was done with it and didn’t want to smell it anymore.

Aside from that, it seemed like a standard moisturizer to me.  I didn’t pick up on any special qualities.

I did read one note in the card that comes with the box that mentioned this might be good to use at night before going to bed.  That would allow the scent to not compete with your perfume (as it would during daytime use), but more importantly, it would likely help you get to sleep since lavender is good for relaxation.  Now, that, my friends, intrigues me!

Most likely, I won’t be buying this one unless it has magical powers to help me fall asleep instantly and sleep like a baby!

#6: Daisy Dream Perfume by Marc Jacobs

In the past, I’ve mentioned every time I do a perfume review that I’m super picky when it comes to scents and 9 times out of 10, I don’t like the perfume.  But…I feel like things are a-changin’!  The past few months, I’m not only liking the perfume samples I’ve received, but I’ve LOVED them!!!

In the past 3-4 months, I’ve bought 2 different perfumes, which is more than I’ve bought in the last 10 years of my life.  Seriously…I’m not kidding…I normally don’t do the perfume thing.

As for this one…add it to the list of perfumes I’m loving!  (sigh…I CANNOT go buy another perfume!)

What I love about it is that it’s a light scent and it’s perfect for spring and summer.  It has notes of blackberry, grapefruit, pear, jasmine, lychee, blue wisteria, white woods, musk, and coconut water.  That even sounds like summer…mix that sucker up, throw a little umbrella thingy in it, and sip it by the pool!

Thumbs up on this one and yeah…I want it! (but, I’m resisting…and it’s hard!)

So, what’s the score?  Overall…it ended up being a pretty good box!  I really like 3 out of the 5 products and depending on how the lotion does with my sleeping, it might be 4 out of 5!

I tried it last night and fell right asleep and slept like a baby…not sure if I was just tired or the lavendar scent helped!! But, I’ll be trying it again tonight :).

Interesting mix in this box. I am glad to know you love that perfume – I’m always curious about new, fresh scents! Although, like you I perfume. I need to finish one up (Happy by Clinique) before I buy anything new! :)

I love the Benefit primer! I got a sample size a while back and use it up pretty quickly. I love that velvety texture. I’ve never thought about bringing a travel candle to a hotel room, but that seems like such a luxurious little touch. I’ll have to try it next time I’m away from home. I have been a long-time lover of Marc Jacobs fragrances. Daisy has been at the top of my perfume list for a while. I’ve changed my approach to perfume lately. I stopped buying more than one full size bottle at a time and instead I buy the travel size roller ball or sprays. They are less expensive and they last just the right amount of time. I kind of get sick of a full bottle by the time I finish it, but with the travel sizes, I still love it when I’m done, but I am ‘free’ to try a new fragrance.

That’s a GREAT idea, Miranda! I saw the travel rollerball of the last perfume I bought, but I wasn’t sure if it’d go on as well as the spray. I’ll have to give that a try! :)

This sounds like a pretty good box overall. I think I’d totally try the lipstick and I love candles so I’d burn that too. I hope the lotion helps with sleep! If it does I’d love to know because my sleep is awful.

I tried the lotion last night and slept like a baby! But, not sure if I was just really tired or if it was the lotion, so I’m going to keep trying it out and see :). I’ll keep you posted if it works!!

I still have a bit of the sample left, but I may have to get the travel sized roller ball (if they sell that!), it’s just so lovely for spring! :)
