April Faves & May Plans

It’s the 1st of the month! Around these parts that means checking in on last month’s goals (to see how I did) and prepping for May with some new objectives!  To keep myself accountable and because you guys seem to like taking a peek behind the scenes at what’s on my plate, I share those goals and how I did…every single month!  So…are you curious how I did with my goals for April?  Then keep on reading (spoiler alert…pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!)!

April was a BUSY month! I had a birthday (a BIG one!), I traveled home for a long overdue family reunion, found out about some major organizational changes at work, and attempted a 30 day blogging challenge…whew!  I’m tired just writing all of that!

The blogging challenge was a major undertaking! Trying to share a post every single day for a solid month is no joke.  Especially since I didn’t want to sacrifice quality and just hit publish on anything just to check it off!  So, I didn’t actually post every single day.  I missed 4 days, I believe, but I’m okay with that. I got a lot out of it and will be sharing more about that later in May!

In the mean time, let’s dive in and see how April stacked up and what’s on tap for May!

Here’s what you were loving…

It’s always fun to look back and see which posts people liked best.  These were the four top posts that I published last month, so if you missed one, be sure to check them out!

How’d I do on my April Goals?

April was a BUSY month but you know what….I accomplished ALL of my goals that I set out in last month’s post!!  Say what?!

I didn’t even realize it until I went to compile this post and my feelings of being overwhelmed and not getting enough done (pretty much how I always feel, lol) suddenly disappeared and I felt like Superwoman!  So, this served as a reminder to check in with yourself so you can see that you ARE getting things done!!

 Fun Goals  | Book European vacation {SUCCESS}
Last month, I mentioned that a friend and I were planning a trip to Central Europe for later this year.  I had thought we might get it booked this month, and while we didn’t quite do that, we are knee deep in planning and will likely get it booked soon!

Looks like September will be when we will head over, so we have a little bit of time to get things firmed up.  But, we have gotten quite a bit done and finalized the cities/countries we’ll be visiting, so I consider this a success!

 Healthy & Budgeting Goals  | Start my first Capsule Kitchen {SUCCESS}
I just finished setting this up this week and I’m starting to implement it right now.  I am also planning to use Peapod (a delivery service from my local grocery store) to deliver my groceries each week so I stick with my capsule and eliminate grabbing other things not on my capsule list (it’ll also help me save time and have a better work/life balance!). So…check this one off…success!

 Blogging Goals  | Focus on Facebook {NULL}
I tried to get more into Facebook this month, I promise!  I read articles on how to better use it as a means of connecting with readers and growing your blog.  But, Facebook’s algorithms are so rigid, I found it just wasn’t worth the investment of time (i.e. putting in a lot of time, but very few people seeing my posts).

I’m still sharing my posts on my Facebook page and will check out other bloggers, but it’s just not my favorite form of social media, so I’m not sweating this one.  I don’t really think I failed or succeeded on this one…I gave it my best and I say it’s a draw.

 Blogging Goals  | Finish the ‘add more cool stuff’ plans {SUCCESS}
I probably shouldn’t say ‘Finish’ for ‘adding more cool stuff’ to my blog because my list is long :).  BUT, I did make a dent in things.

My big ‘cool’ goal is to have gallery pages when you click on a category in the sidebar so it’s easier to see all the posts in that category (plus I’ll organize them into sub-categories).  As I’m setting these up, I’m cleaning up old posts to better mesh with my new brand that I released in February, so it’s taking some time, but I did release the page for the Accessories category!  I’m almost done with the page for the Travel category, so that should be going out soon.

I also added a ‘Work with Me’ page in the menu bar at the top!

So, I didn’t get all of the cool things implemented, but I doubt I’ll ever get to the point where that list is done! So, I consider it a success since I knocked off several things on my list!

My Plans for May

Since last month was the first time I’ve actually accomplished all of the goals I set out for myself I learned a thing or two…set realistic goals and don’t put too much on my plate.  I’m not sure I’m following my own advice here, though.  I’m feeling productive today, so my list is brimming with things to do!

But, I’m not traveling this month, which is a first since February, so hopefully that extra weekend at home (and a 3-day weekend at the end of the month) will help me stay on task!

 Healthy Goals  | Get Serious
I’ve been letting life, work, blogging, and everything else distract me from a regular fitness routine.  With the weather getting warmer, I’m itching to get outside and I feel like moving, so I’m finally feeling ready to get back into a routine!

 Blogging Goals  | Prep to open my Etsy Shop on JUNE 1!
So many good things in the works!  My head is literally bursting everyday with ideas and I’m filling up notebooks with plans!  A goal I’ve had for awhile is to open an Etsy shop to sell my printables. I’ve been working up a storm behind the scenes creating some fun and useful PDFs and my BIG goal is to open shop on June 1…yep, 1 month from today!  I’m super excited and have a list as long as my arm on printables to create in prep for the ‘opening’!

(I also have some exciting news for my email subscribers with regards to my printables, so if you’re not signed up yet, there’s no time like the present!!)

 Travel Goals  | Plan TWO European Trips
I mentioned last month about planning a European adventure with a friend for the fall.  That is still underway and we’re nailing down our final itinerary so we can book our flights soon.  So…my goal is to finish up the big part of the planning this month!

In addition, I now have a second trip to plan!  I just found out last week that I will need to be in Paris for a 2 day conference for work in June.  Well, I’m not going to miss an opportunity for seeing Europe in June, so I’m planning to fly over a few days early and spend a few extra days after the conference doing some exploring (both in Paris and somewhere else!).

 Fun Goals  | Get Outside
With the weather (finally!) getting nicer, I’m hoping to get outside on the weekends and do some walks.  I also want to check out a movie or two that has recently come out, so an evening at the movies just might be in store!

 Home Goals  | Organize my Living Room
I shared back in January that one of my big goals for the year was to reorganize and de-clutter my entire house.  I’ve put that project on the back burner for the past few months, so I’m hoping to tackle my living room this month.

It’s not really that cluttered or un-organized, but there are a few spots that could use some attention.  I’m hoping that by getting this one room knocked off my list, it’ll spur me into a few other areas that need a bit more attention.

 Other Goals  | Stay Focused!
I’ve put a lot on my plate for this month, but I’m feeling really energized and motivated!  My other goal is to stay on track and stay focused!! I need to keep my eye on the prize and get things done!!

The Theme for May is…

I LOVE to travel….like…seriously love.  I pretty much need to always have a trip in the hopper that I’m planning or I feel restless.  Since I’m in the process of planning two European trips for this year, I’m really in ‘travel’ mode right now.

So…this month,  it only seems fitting to focus on TRAVEL!  I have oodles of topics lined up for you, from must have travel accessories, places to see in Bavaria and Switzerland, and a three part series on Girlfriend Getaways – why you need to do them, how to plan them, and where to go!

BONUS! To get in the spirit, my awesome email subscribers were treated to a travel packing list when my monthly newsletter went out on May 1!  If you’d like a copy too, just enter your email address to be added to the list and you will get a link to download your free goodie!
*If you’re already an email subscriber, check your inbox for my newsletter! Otherwise, just enter your email address below for the link (don’t worry…you won’t be added to the list multiple times!).

Here’s a little sneak peek for ya…

Your turn, friends! What are YOUR goals for May? I’d love to hear all about them, so leave me some comments below and let’s chat it out!

    European trips?? You have to blog about the food, lol, I am a foodie and I love to see those kinds of posts….cant wait to read!! #bloglove #pinned

      Hi Nancy! I’ll definitely include some info on food, although I have to admit…I’m not a foodie, lol. I love trying local dishes when I travel, though, and I can’t wait to get back to Paris and indulge in a Nutella crepe (my personal fave!). Thanks so much for stopping by!!

  2. 3

    Congrats on reaching your goals!
    I am a brand new blogger so my goal list is very short: blog every day in May. I will add another goal next month.

    • 4

      Thanks Kim!! Good luck on your goal!! I tried that in April and it’s TOUGH, lol. I’ll be doing a post about what I learned from that experience next week, which might be helpful. But, that’s a great initial goal since it’ll fill your blog with lots of content! I’ll be sure to check it out ;).

    Great goals! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this month. My goals are 1. Finish my bible study. 2. Finish the 3 books I’m reading right now. 3. Increase my blog traffic by 20%. 4. Walk for 30 minutes each day outside (I’m been sick for about a month and have to start back slowly!)

    • 6

      Those are GREAT goals, Sherri!! I’m with you on the walking bit…I need to get so much better at that, but it’s tough to squeeze it in (and there’s no good places to walk around my place, so I have to drive to go somewhere to walk, which seems counter-intuitive, lol). Good luck!

    You did SO well on your goals this month! I wish we had a good option for grocery delivery in our area. The only grocery trip I truly dread is the bulk shopping trip to the Big Box store. I would gladly pay to not have to run that errand. It’s so great that you’re doing a capsule kitchen. I am loving mine. Can’t wait to see the new Etsy shop!

      Thanks Miranda!! They’re pretty good…sometimes it’s frustrating when they’re out of the item, so you’re out of luck, whereas if I’m at the store myself, I can pick up an alternate option. It think they charge around $10 to deliver and even though they say the prices for the items aren’t more, I think they are. But, like you said in one of my earlier posts, it’s an investment in MY time! So definitely worth it!! And…thanks SO much for signing up for my newsletter :). Enjoy the weekend!

    Congrats on your goals!! Sounds like you had a lot on your plate, but you totally rocked them! I also love that you shared your top posts from last month – can’t wait to read how to become more efficient with my blogging :)

    Good luck on May’s goals! I’m sure you’ll do just as great as you did in April.

      Hi Ariana – thanks so much! I find if I have a lot on my plate, I actually get more done..weird, but at the same time, there’s a find line that I have trouble not crossing into having *too* much on my plate, lol. Hope you enjoyed the blogging post!

  6. 13

    Great job on accomplishing all your goals! (+ thanks for sharing your top posts, because I apparently missed your birthday–happy super-belated birthday!), and I love the one on tips to speed up blog writing time! I need that! ;P

    Looking forward to reading your posts on travel! :] I’m gonna be moving all over the country later on this year, so packing tips will be glorious! 😛

    • 14

      Aww….thanks Farrah!! :) That sounds exciting to be moving all over the country….hopefully you’ll have time to enjoy each place you land!

    • 16

      I completely understand that! With the weather getting nicer, it’s getting harder to stay inside :). I just got back from a nice long walk in a nearby park which was just want I needed to get re-focused, lol. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!
