Plan a Girlfriend Getaway NOW! 6 Reasons Why…

When was the last time you got out of town with your best girls?  Has it been awhile? If so, then I’m hoping today that I can convince you to plan a girlfriend getaway, so start making some plans, packing your bags, and getting away for some R&R!

Last week, I shared a post about why you NEED to make time for your girlfriends and you guys responded so positively and every single comment agreed 100% (yay!).

Because I love traveling and feel so passionately about taking time for yourself, girlfriend getaways are something I am a BIG advocate of! While it’s great to have a girls night out, I’d strongly encourage you to turn that into a girls getaway weekend from time to time!

This week, I’m going to share THREE posts on this very topic, so if has been on your mind, then stick with me, okay!

Today, I’m going to pump you up and get you excited about making this happen.  Wednesday, I’ll share a ton of ideas of where and what to do your adventure {check it out HERE} and Friday, we’ll wrap it up with tips on how to make it the BEST trip ever as well as some cost cutting ideas {check it out HERE} to make the most of your cash!

If you’re still in college, today’s post might not apply to quite as much.  College is a time when we head out for spring break or maybe a quick trip to a beach house with our roommates, sorority sisters, or best friends.

It’s after you graduate from college when everyone moves, starts working, gets married, has babies, etc, that indulging in a good girlfriend getaway starts to slip to the side.  We long for our college days where we didn’t have as many commitments tying us to stay put!

Well…listen up ladies!  Yes, we’re busy, yes, we have people that depend on us (well…I don’t, but just go with me here!), and yes, getting away can seem like more work instead of something fun.  But, I’m here to tell you that those reasons are EXACTLY why you need to plan some getaway time with your best buds!

While I have a few friends that I travel with on occasion, I have a running tradition with one friend in particular.  We try to do a girl’s getaway weekend every year.  We’re not always successful, but because we make it a priority to at least try to get something planned, guess what… we rarely go more than two years without getting away and having a blast!

We have been friends for over 15 years.  We both have busy, demanding jobs, and we’ve both been married (and divorced).  She has two kids and recently remarried.  She’s moved 800 miles away, so we’re not even in the same city anymore (which makes it even more important for us to keep up the tradition!).  And yet…we still make it happen!!

Where do you want to go for your girlfriend getaway!? (Image Source:

So…just in case you need some more encouragement…here are my 6 reasons why you NEED to go on a girlfriend getaway!

6 reasons Why you NEED to go on a Girlfriend Getaway!

In case  you haven’t noticed, girlfriend getaways are HOT! Don’t believe..just google it!  You’ll see tips on where to go, packages that you can book, etc.

No matter how old you are or where you are in your life (single, married, divorced, kids, no kids, etc.) you will benefit by taking a weekend (or longer!) and getting out of town with your best girls (or girl).  Lest you not believe me, let me highlight the reasons why…

1 Let off steam  – Let’s face it, work, kids, families, etc. builds up stress and anxiety.  Usually, we know it, but sometimes we’re so used to it, we don’t !

Getting away let’s you let off a little steam and melt away the stress.  Why is this good? Aside from the bad effects on your health, stress, over time, will age you faster.  So…think of this as part of your fountain of youth!

2 Let go of responsibilities  – Being an adult sucks.  Yep, I said it.  Work, bills, house repairs, dentist appointments, etc. is part of the daily grind, but from time to time it’s nice to just let go of all of that and not worry about responsibilities for a few days!  It’ll make you feel like a kid again!

3 Have some fun  – Hanging with your besties is guaranteed fun, right?! (if it’s not, then you might want to rethink your besties! lol).  Who doesn’t benefit from having a few days of pure fun??  You can make this whatever you want!  Shop, sky dive, hike, escape into a yoga zen, whatever!  It doesn’t so long as it’s a ton of fun!

4 Laugh until your sides hurt  – Laughing is always good for the soul! I don’t know about you, but when I’m with my favorite gals, we don’t really do much else BESIDES laugh!!  Laughing is refreshing and after a few days of non-stop laughing, you’ll have a pep in your step and a sparkle in your eye.

5 No kids!  – I don’t have kids, but from hearing all of the rest of my friends that do have little bundles of joy vent on an regular basis, I probably should’ve lead with this one, right?

For you mommies out there, just close your eyes and imagine for a few seconds…sleeping in, nobody needing you for anything, doing your own thing, getting to eat first!  All of that can be yours for a precious few days when you skate out of town with your girls!!

6 Experience new things  – This is the BEST thing about travel in my opinion – you experience new things.  Experiencing something new is bound to boost your confidence, rev up your excitement, and make you feel more alive!

Have I convinced you yet? I honestly can’t think of any reasons why a girlfriend getaway isn’t a good idea!! Not only can you look back on the fond memories and share a laugh (or two!) while enjoying your few days together, you are also building more memories!

Take off and get some peace, quiet and relaxation for a few days! (Image source:

And if money is a tad tight…you don’t have to go far or spend a fortune to treat yourself to a getaway with your gals.  The main thing is spending time with each other and having some fun.

What about you…do you get away with your girlfriends? If yes, what was your favorite trip?  If no….why not?  Have a I convinced you otherwise?

THIS is so amazing. I love your reasons to push for a girlfriends getaway. I did a short one last summer with a bestie and although it was only 2 nights, it was so fabulous! It is amazing therapy and fun!! Great post, Vicky!! Glam Karen

Thanks Karen!! :) 2 nights is just enough for escaping for a bit and have tons of fun with a bestie…great memories can be made in 2 days or 10 days! Hope you get to go on another one soon :)…

I’m still in college, but since I’m married, I’m not allowed in a sorority or such. I would like to do a girl’s weekend in our town/surrounding area. I would like to let you know that not everyone in college is a kid still. Even though I’m only 20, I don’t fit in the stereotype.

I go away with my friends a couple times a year. I am a Mom of three, a wife and work two jobs so it’s a perfect way for me to reconnect and recharge.

That’s awesome, Daffney!! That is definitely the way to do it and so glad to hear you’re making that happen regularly :). I think that sets such a fantastic example for your kids…they see YOU valuing & respecting yourself which not only teaches them to feel that way about themselves, but to also respect you as a person, in addition to mom. Yay! Goodness all around :).
